BlackDog Advertising is looking for a Lifestyle Editor who has experience working with online publications. The Lifestyle Editor’s primary responsibilities will include contributing ideas for articles, overseeing content production, managing a team of freelance and in-house copywriters, writing and editing articles, and managing the overall voice for an online lifestyle website featuring articles and videos on topics ranging from fashion, cooking, and home decor to health, well-being and life skills as well as tips and how-to’s.

Looking for Candidates with the Following Attributes & Skill Sets:

  • A digitally savvy content enthusiast with an interest in and ongoing engagement with lifestyle topics including: cooking, fashion, home decor, outdoor life, health & wellness, and general life skills
  • Prior Experience working with an online lifestyle publication developing and curating digital content for web and social environments, and managing a team of contributors
  • Prior experience editing SEO-inspired content is a big plus
  • Demonstrated experience with assigning and editing stories
  • Strong writer and proofreader, capable of writing engaging features, headlines and blurbs
  • A high level of attention to detail, critical thinking skills and strong organizational skills
  • Working knowledge of G Suite is preferred
  • Knowledge of editorial best practices
  • Familiarity with SEO
  • Knowledge of social media best practices
  • Knowledge of Sprout Social or comparable Social Media Management software is a big plus

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with creative and marketing teams to develop editorial calendars and ensure a steady stream of content for online evergreen articles and videos
  • Coordinate content and manage a team of in-house and freelance copywriters. Provide oversight and edit content to ensure a high level of quality, and alignment with overall creative strategy and goals.
  • Suggest stories and generate headline ideas in alignment with client’s requests as well as target audience’s interests
  • Occasionally write or produce new content, headlines, blurbs, special features
  • Interview special contributors, assign and manage articles to be written in contributors’ voice
  • Check content for accuracy and errors
  • Vet content to make sure it aligns with client’s values, ideals and best interests
  • Proofread, edit and improve stories or pieces
  • Occasionally assist in recruiting and vetting freelance writers
  • Work with marketing department and Account Executives to monitor, curate, promote and make suggestions for social media posts to accompany and complement generated content as well as posts related to client’s interests and latest news
  • Work closely with creative, marketing, and SEO teams to improve ranking and increase traffic
  • Work with writers to create premium features and lifestyle content
  • Research competitors and guide content strategy to stand out and provide value
  • Meet deadlines and budget requirements

Must Haves:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience with an online publication, preferably with at least one year of experience in an editorial oversight role
  • Demonstrated experience with assigning, writing, proofing and editing stories

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or greater in journalism, communications or related field

Software Knowledge

  • G Suite
  • Sprout Social knowledge is a plus

Position Details:

  • Full time position located in our southeast Miami office
  • Hours: 9am - 6pm
  • Monday - Friday
